Microexpressions & Body Language
Microexpressions are brief, involuntary facial expressions that reveal a person’s true emotions, regardless of what they say or how they try to conceal them. They typically last less than a second and are often hard to notice or interpret. However, learning how to spot and understand microexpressions can be valuable for anyone who wants to improve their communication, empathy, and social intelligence.
Microexpressions are caused by activating the facial muscles corresponding to the seven universal emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, disgust, and contempt. These emotions are innate and shared by all humans, regardless of culture, language, or background. Therefore, microexpressions are also universal and can be recognised across different groups of people.
We provide direct support in live interviews and video recordings and offer training in microexpression. Microexpressions are not always easy to detect or analyse. They can be influenced by various factors, such as the context, intensity, duration, and frequency of the emotion. To master the skill of reading microexpressions, one needs to practice and pay attention to the details.
Body language is the generic term for nonverbal signals, such as gestures, expressions, and eye movement, that communicate emotions and intentions. Whereas words are influenced by our conscious thoughts, body language is largely under the control of our subconscious. It represents a large percentage of our communication. It contradicts our words when stressed and attempting to hide our distress. Lying creates high stress levels, and through observing and interpreting the signs, we can identify points of interest in a narrative or interview that reveal the underlying truth.
